Tyre Pressures On Peugeot 307 – with 16 inch wheels.

Hi,

Before I picked up my 307 I got the dealer to swap the standard 15 inch
wheels for 16 inch ones. The only problem is that the sticker on the car
door opening which gives the correct tyre pressures is based on the old
tyres, and I’ve been unable to find out the correct pressures I should now
use.

Can someone with a 90 Horsepower, diesel, 307 fitted with 205/55 x R16 tyres
please tell me what the correct pressures should be.

BTW – The dealer seems to have set them to about 32 psi. The incorrect
sticker shows 2.5 Bar (approx. 36 psi), so there appears to be a bit of a
mis-match.

Very bad incorrect advice. That figure is the maximum tyre design pressure
for max load, if you inflate to that pressure the ride will be very harsh
and the car will slip like a bugger in the wet.

Its also the recommended tyre pressure

I find that  _very_  surprising. I have never owned or cared for a vehicle
yet where the car maker specifies that all 4 tires be inflated to the tire
    manufacturers maximum design pressure.

I think we must be cautious with are replies on occasion, you could be
correct (or not) but if your advise is wrong, then the vehicle could become
dangerous to drive (for Mr average)

    Regards Julian.

Try to find out what the xsi runs at. I believe it came with 16′ wheels as
standard. This should be a good starting point.

307xsi on 17" wheels has 2.5bar (35psi) tyre pressure front and rear.

I thought the tyre pressure marked on the tyre is the MAXIMUM the tyre
should be inflated to.  This is what it says on my Continentals.

Correct, the guy was just talking utter bollocks, trouble is it’s
    potentially dangerous bollocks.

How does the tyre maker know what car they’re gonna be used on ?

    He is VERY wrong !

  12. admin says:

    Again, absolute rubbish.

Where are you getting this from ?

Different cars use different pressures, even if they have exactly the same
    tyres on.
Do your tyres list the pressure for every single car ?

32 is too soft. Generally, the thinner the tyre’s side wall, the higher the
    pressure you should run at.

Your 16" tyres are clearly 1" thinner than your 15", so the pressure should
    be >=

Set them to 36 PSI – I can’t see it being any higher than this.

  14. admin says:

Thanks, yes I’d already sussed that out.

The pressure printed on the tyre size just tells you the safe limit for its
construction – bears no relation to the weight etc. of the car.
