106 1.5 D Cold Start Problems

Hi Folks,

This problem has been with me for a few years now, i have never got to
the bottom of it. It has been into the garage but as i`ll explain once
started the car runs fine for the day.

In the summer it runs fine. Its an M reg and has done 50k miles.

In the morning, when cold and damp the engine wont start it turns over
and white smoke comes out of the exhaust. Eventually it starts and then
will run fine for the day.

In Dec 04 i replaced the glows plugs and the voltage over them is fine,
so i am assuming that isnt the problem, at the same time i replaced the
Heat Relay box as well in case that had gone.

Now does anyone have any ideas, several suggestions have been made:

1. Fuel dropping back down into fuel tank do to poor seals? (Solution
prime  the bulb until hard then start)

2. Valve clearence is to small, and when cold it hinders the start. Due
to poor compression and worn pistons.

3. Glow Plugs, one report suggested that glow plugs can wear far quicker
and it may well be them especially if they were cheap ones.

4. Fuel pick filter blocked.

It has been into a garage before about this but they haven`t found a
problem becuase the car always starts as i pointed out above.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks

406 Speedo woes

I’m still trying to sort out my eratic speedo, has anyone got any advice to
give? Details are as follows.
D8 406 1800 16v.
Speedo is eratic dropping to zero sometimes. For some reason tends to be
worse on a hot day.
I was told by a few that it was definitely the speed transducer behind the
glovebox. Now from what I can figure out is that only cars with variable
pas have this box. Mine doesn’t have varable pas. However Peugeot assure
me that according to their system it should have one.
Behind the glovebox I only have two central locking boxes. My parts Cd and
Haynes manual have been no help.
Any suggestions as to where I should look or should I just go ahead and
replace the gearbox speed sensor?
Thanks
Ryan

205 XLD fuel filter light

Now I’ve had this car about a week and blown all the soot out of the
engine from a lifetime of central london driving, I’m certainly
impressed with how it drives (if not with its ultra-cheap
interior…its just like an engine with wheels), its fuel consumption
is unbelievable to me at over 70mpg on the motorway, being used to
30-40 on the XS.

BUT…the damn "water in the fuel filter" light on the dash wont go
out. I can categorically say there is no water in the filter cos ive
drained it til it was empty of everything. I’ve also taken the water
sensor out and given it a clean, which has made no difference. Is there
something else which makes it come on? Or is it just a duff sensor. The
filter is probably due a change, but I cant see why that would make the
light come on.

TIA

Andy

405 TD where does the speedo cable enter the gearbox

This is to try and fix a wobbly speedo – I can follow the speedo cable
through the bulkhead but then it disappears – I assume it must go into
the gearbox but can’t find it anywhere.

Also if you know if it’s likely the worm drive is worn/damages or how
to replace it (I suspect this over the cable) let me know.

Peugeot 205 Mardi Gras 1.8 TD Front Brake Part Compatibility Problem

Peugeot 205 Mardi Gras 1.8 TD Front Brake Part Compatibility Problem

Hi,

Please help me! I currently have vented front brake disks which are
21mm wide.Unfortunately my callipers only extend to 48mm leaving
insufficient room for the 18mm brake pads reccomended by all suppliers
i contacted. I found some smaller pads with the same shape unfotunately
these are still 15mm and so do not fit in the callipers.

Does anyone know what solution would be best. Shall i fit callipers
from another model which extend further or can i just replace the disks
with non vented ones? My prefered option is to replace the disks with
solid ones. Does anyone think this will cause any problems?

Does anyone know which components were used for the vehicle when it was
new?

Thankyou in advance for your help!

306 '99 Speedo jump

Evening,

Very occasionally I catch the needle on my speedo jump up from low
(pulling away) speeds to say, 20mph, then straight back down again. Is
this likely to be early signs of a problem or nothing to worry about? It
seems to work just fine otherwise.

Cheers,
Tom

106 engine management light

Any help here appreciated.
the engine management light on my 2001 106 1.1 petrol has come on.
Is on and stays on from ignition, even without engine running.
Notice no effects, performance, pinking etc, whilst driving.
Is this likely the Lambda probe, can I test it before changing, or must I
take it to peugeot along
with my right arm?

Thanks
Stevie

307 – Bad Vibrations

I have a 2003 HDI SW. Up to 65mph its the most solid car on the road, but,
all this changes thereafter. When it gets to 70 you quickly become aware of
small vibrations in the steering. 75mph reveals much more vibration which is
even more noticeable when performing a slight turn on the steering wheel.
Above these speeds the whole driving experience is horrible with the
steering wheel moving side to side.

The car has done 37000 miles and the all the wheels have been balanced twice
(to no effect). Two wishbones have been replaced in its life and one is
about to be replaced again under warranty (would this cause the above?). The
tyres ‘look’ ok with much tread on them, but could they be ‘out of round’ or
something similar? and could poor tyres inflict damage on the Wishbone?
Finally, an additional factor to the vibration is that it comes in and out
say every three seconds.

Can anyone enlighten me to possible causes of the above. It’s a shame really
as I quite like the car, despite the CD multi player crashing regularly!

Much Obliged
Merry Christmas
Iain
