406 2.1 td Engine number

Hi all, just had a look on Google but not much info about this. I have had
the engine replaced and need the new engine number to inform the DVLA. Does
anybody know where it is on the 2.1 td engine? As I can’t see it anywhere. I
have heard that it might be hidden by the starter, is this possible? If so,
do I need to remove the starter to find it?

TIA Barno.

Re: 206hdi Diagnostic Warning Light

Hi,you will proberly find that your Accelerator pedal sensor is starting to
go down (the sensor where your throttle cable goes into in the engine bay).
there are  two tracks inside it, the ecu calculates the posistion of your
throttle they can burn out. you can feel the sensor operation if it feels
rough then more than likely new sensor might be required.

Remote Fob Batteries Discharging

A couple of weeks ago I replaced the two batteries in the spare fob of our
Phase 2 1998 306 ( two buttons)

Now I’ve come to use it, I find the batteries appear to be dead – I think
this may be the second time this has happened – Does anyone have any ideas
what’s happening?

Could it be that touching the batteries causes damage? I’ve replaced the
batteries in our other cars fobs without this problem, so it doesn’t seem
that likely – but what do I know?!

Any thoughts would be very welcome

Thanks

Steve

Peugeot 406 2.0 SE Coupe speedo problem

Hi, i’ve read through pages and pages of previous topics and have come
to the conclusion that it must be the speedo transducer (if mine has
the right part)…

my speedo works on and off, its had a new sensor on the gearbox and a
new set of instrument dials! and still not working properly…..

the only thing i wanted to check is that alot of the 406′s have black
boxes behind the glove box, but mine hasn’t got a black one, its a
silver box which was hrld in with a screw, but still has the same wires
going to it, look at these pics to show what i’m on about….

http://public.fotki.com/GAZ666/my_406_coupe/

could this still be the problem of my woes……??

pls help

rear suspension

Having trouble with rear suspension when I have there is some weight in the
car. Have had the suspension checked out by a creditable shock absorber
fitter and there is no problem. Have heard there is something that you can
fit to springs/shockers to harden the suspension. Can anyone advise me of
any product or give me some pointers.
  Thanks

Wierd engine behaviour 1999 306 XSI 16v 1998cc…….

Expert opinions urgently required…..

My 1999 (T-reg) 1998cc 16v Peugeot 306 XSI has a wierd engine
characteristic that I’m a bit baffled by.  It only seems to happen
when the car has been running for half an hour or longer, and seems to
come and go a lot.  I suspect it’s to do with the fuelling.  When it’s
misbehaving, the engine is very hesitant, it takes a few seconds to
respond to the throttle, even when out of gear, and the engine seems
to have difficulty in responding to changes in engine speed, e.g. when
changing down to a lower gear and pressing the accelerator I get a
hesitation that can last a couple of seconds before the engine pulls
forward in a rather lumpy manner. This never happens within the first
20 minutes of any journey, and the car might behave normally if it
gets to remain at the same engine speed e.g. when cruising along the
motorway for an hour.  On Tuesday it was fine on a long motorway
journey until I hit stop-start traffic and it started misbehaving, it
got got so bad that the engine started stalling when left to idle.
Whenever I started the engine following a stall it would start on the
button and behave normally for a few seconds (presumably until the
automatic choke turned itself off) and then would go back to
misbehaving.  Then on one particular occasion when the engine cut out
when I was changing between gears at about 25mph I just dropped the
clutch into 2nd gear and bump started the engine, it spluttered and
lurched into life and the problem instantly disappeared for the rest
of the journey (but this problem still occurs at the moment just as it
did before).

Any ideas what this could be? I’m baffled because it only seems to
happen when the engine is hot, and i’m confused at how bump-starting
the engine temporarily cleared it on Tuesday – I’ve thought it could
be a clogged/collapsed cat, or a ropey lambda sensor – Any other ideas
what it might be?  The car has done 100k miles by the way, it makes a
bit of a tappy/ticky noise at 2k+ RPM but i’m told this is common on
306s and is probably just noisy fuel injectors……..

Peugeot 306 radiator fan problems

Hi!

This is my first post on this list. I hope someone can help me. I am
trying to help someone with radiator fan problems.

He bought the Peugeot 306 about five years ago (p reg .. early shape).
Very soon after he had to replace the radiator thermostat. Since then he
has had two new radiator fan motors fitted.

Last week he had overheating problems again so he asked me to help.

I found that the radiator thermostat was stuck shut so I replaced it. I
also found that the fan motor was dead (checked it off the car). He said
that the fan has always had the habit of coming on very early and staying
on, even when motoring 30-40 MPH or more(not just stuck in traffic) but
last week the car overheated and the fan did not come on at all.

I purchased another fan for him. Checked it before I put it in the car and
it works fine. When I put it in the car though it did not work.

I then by-passed the thermostat switch in the radiator (thinking it may be
dead) by short-circuiting the power from the feed wire to the switch down
the switch wire –  the fan still would not work.

I then (directly from the battery) sent a current down to the fan. It
worked OK, proving that the switch wire and the earth is ok.

I then checked the power from the feed before it gets to the thermostat
switch and it registered 17.5 volts but immediately I short cicuited the
wire down to the fan, the voltage showed zero. Obviously this is why the
fan is not working but what is causing the voltage to drop to nothing when
the circuit is made complete?

Anyone any ideas please? Any help appreciated.

One more question.

Is the fan supposed to run if only the ignition is on without the engine
running? Why I ask this is when I checked the voltage from the feed to the
thermostat switch with the engine running it was 17.5 volts but only 1.5
volt when only the ignition was on (no engine running).

Many thanks

Terry
