306DT Brakes ain't too good

Hi

I recently purchased my first ever car – 1994 306 D Turbo with 117miles
on the clock :D

Have gradually been getting it into as good a condition as I can.  My
current project is the brakes.  Now, when I got it the discs were badly
worn and warped so I replaced them and the pads which stopped the
horrible shuddering I was feeling during braking!

However, the brakes aren’t very effective.  Maybe I’m expecting too much
as up till now I have been able to drive my parents’ much newer cars,
but I still think they’re inadequate.

I have the Haynes manual and I read that I could pump the brake pedal a
few times to expel the vaccuum and then restart the engine and feel the
pedal give – if it doesn’t give then it’s a faulty/worn master cylinder.
Now, it gave a *bit*, but nothing like what my parents’ cars do.  The
pedal also feels very spongy and travels a good couple of inches, but
doesn’t creep all the way to the floor, or anywhere close.

From looking at the condition of the master cylinder itself (pretty
rusty around the seals etc), I would say that it is the original one
from ’94.

My first plan is to change the brake fluid and see if this improves
anything as I believe water and air get into it over time and reduce
performance, and then I will renew the master cylinder if not.

Are there other places I should be looking (calipers etc??) before I
spend £50 on a master cylinder to find that it makes no difference!?

Thanks in advance

Jamie

205 fan

I have a 1994 Diesel 205. I cannot turn the fan off. It should be controlled
from the middle of the three rotating switches. The switch moves ok and will
travel the whole distance from left to right, but won’t find a position
where the fan is anything but full or perhaps three quarters on.

Hope someone can help.

205 TD How Much Boost?

I  have a 205 TD and have purchased one of these beauties:
http://www.dawesdevices.com/powerpack.html
From my own research I have found that the standard maximum boost pressure is 0.7bar.
Bearing in mind I have No charge cooling at all what do people reckon would be a resonable Maximum boost to go for?
I was thinking of 0.9-1.0 bar. I believe standard Dturbo 306′s and 405′s with intercoolers run at 1.0 bar max boost.
I am a cheapskate and fuel in the uk is a rip off so I don’t drive on-boost all the time.
I may in the future look at a 405 intercooler set up. But I am more tempted to try a home made water Injection system.
What do people think?

Engines and Turbos: Which ones?

I am starting to seriously think about upgrading the engine in my 205.
I want a Diesel in this car (will be getting a 1.6GTi soon to get used
to a petrol before I get an Mi16) but was wondering which I should
get. I’m tempted to stick with the XUD7T for simplicity but was
wondering if any of the 1.9s would be a good idea? Or even the larger
diesels such as the 2.5?
If I got one of these could I change the turbo for a better quality
one without cooking stuff?

I will of course be changing the brakes, suspension, driveshafts etc.
and the gearboxes if needed (or I should say I’ll get a mechanic to do
it for me)  :D

Cheers

FS: 205 auto bonnet

As subject really.  It will have to be collected from down south
(Southampton/Bournemouth area).

Anyone interested?  Make me a (sensible) offer.

Also have a 405 intercooler/manifold which might go well with the bonnet for
a 205 TDi conversion.

Excuse me for writing this in english as my knowledge of your language
is insufficient.
Both the dutch and german forum, will organise the above mentioned

We would like to know if there are any of the french members that
would like to visit this event.
The event will probably be held in the weekend of 3 and 4 September.
Please post your comments and thoughts about this idea.
Of course we’ll keep you informed as soon as we have further details.

Remote control for central lock, on 406

Hi,

My remote for the central lock does not work anymore.

Tried reactivating the key again, but did note help.

Does anyone know where the receiver for the key signal it placed?

And what type of electronics has to be changes to get it to work again.

TIH

307 electronics

Good day,

I’ve recently noticed some strange behaviour on my 2004, 1.6XT 307.

When I unlock the doors from the remote it makes a double-unlock noise (like front then back), then when I switch on the ignition the wipers wipe once and the headlights flash once. Also, more often than not, the clock and calender have reset themselves.

Any ideas on the cause of this?

Thanks,
Matt
